Since the first races with the SV in the Diablo Supercup several teams have tried use the hidden potential of the Raging Bull V12 coupe, but to no avail.

As with most Italian Supercars, developing them has been mainly a privateer effort.
In an era were strong factory teams like Porsche, Chrysler and Mercedes reigned on the tracks, the story of the Diablo in the late 90's was always one of too late too little.

In 2001 Reiter Engineering took over the Diablo of the German KRT team. The car was entered in several FIA GT races with mixed results. Star race cam at the last round in Estoril were a second Diablo was entered with Oliver Gavin and Peter Kox.
Hampered by fuel pickup problems this Diablo had qualified a low 35th. But once sorted the car Gavin set the fastest time during the warm-up.
0,6 seconds quicker than the quickest Viper and an incredible 1,2 seconds quicker than the third placed Prodrive Ferrari!
Thanks to the driving skills of Oliver Gavin and Peter Kox, the Reiter Engineering Lamborghini finished an amazing fifth in a car normally accustomed to languishing at the tail of the field.
