13450 view(s) Even after the end of the Group C era, Porsche found a way to shine once more with its good old 962.Thanks to the work of Jochen Dauer, (ex Group C pilot), Stuttgart suddenly found itself with a "street legal" GT version of the 962.
Having to run smaller wheels than the Proto's, was easily compensated by the extra power that the Flat Six Bi turbo gained from the bigger restrictors allowed under the GT 1 rules.
So rebadged as Dauer 962 LM's, two cars were prepared to enter as GT 1 in the '94' Le Mans 24hrs. With an even more low drag "heck", courtesy of Dutch aerodynamic specialist Wiet Huidekoper, Porsche was ready not only to dominate in GT 1 but also take on the Prototypes. After a race long battle with the Gr. C Toyota 94 C the LM scored Porsche's 13th overall victory. It took the ACO less than a month to change its GT1 rules..so that the pseudo GT would race no more.
