28855 view(s) BMW's LMR prototype set the mold for every LMP to precede it.
The then controversial "single" roll hoop and raised footbox have now become the bench mark for all LMP's.
BMW smartly utilized an over looked rule within the ACO regulations
and used the hoop to create a cleaner airflow to the rear spoiler.
However a key factor for their 99 victory was a true "Endurance "set-up.
Contemporary Carbon brake discs needed to be replaced at least once during the 24 hrs.
Together with Hitco, BMW developed a Carbon compuond that made the disks last a full 24 hrs, as Le Mans is usually won by the cars that spends the least time ..in the Pits!
