Hy there,
thought it would be interesting for some of you, as I'm currently building an MC12 (Body Fola) for our 12h event in 3 weeks.
For this car I'm testing out some more interesting light stuff.
The model itself is clear and simple, the usual good bodywork from Fola,
painted in dark blue, easy decals and Gunze Clearcoat at the end.
Before I painted the body I milled out the squares in the doors to fit in some plexiglas, where I added a small SMD to. The glas is covered on all
sides with silver foil to reflex the light and to give a better shine to the whole area. After painting the body, I added the plexiglas and the decals
accordingly and then clear coated the car.
Seems to work out great. Here's a picture of the lighted starting number:
I also made a small video about it, where you can much more see the effect of this light:

But not enough tricky stuff for this car. As I used the first time some design rims for the car (at least during the race on the front axle, as we are
driving with PC3 tyres) I decided to build standing brake discs and calipers for the front. (after the race I'm going to change the rear tyres as
well :-D)
But trying to build at least as realistic as possible I recognized that brake discs, which are not getting hot, always mean, that you're not driving
fast enough :-D
So hot brake discs always shimmer red during braking... my ones should do as well.
I thought it would be an easier job, than it turned out. I checked a couple of different possiblities, but again came back to the plexiglas job....
Milling it to same dims as the discs, putting a disc behind the plexiglas, covering both again in silver foil, inserting a small smd in the caliper
and directly on the corner of the plexiclasdisc and ... yeah... great... I got the effect I was looking for!
I think it already looks great, but maybe the one or other has an idea how to improve this.
Oh yes, right... I also made a small video of the braking function:

Yep... you've seen right, the tyre is not glued and cutted yet, so still has some work to do :-)
Additional the car will get the regular lights as well (2 front, 3 position on each side, 2 back, exhaust flames....)
If you want, I can keep you informed about the progress in the next few days :-)
oh... all pictures you'll find in my picasa album:

(always happy to read some comments there as well :-D)
So, back to work to finish the car....

Hello Andre
Please keep us informed with updates. Lots of guys tried the glowing brakedisks, but the main problem always was
how to make the glow long enough.
Wondering how you're going to solve that...but I'm sure you will.
Good luck with the Maser and the race
That is so awesome, glowing brake rotors. If you can get the glow and fade right, that is just so cool......flaming exhausts, glowing rotors,
illuminated number panels....what next?
Sound?
Wet track and rain tires? Of course then, working wipers would be all the rage......Terry
We have produced fog at night shifts at the Spa track. It was really cool to see the cars drive through a fog cloud. Does somebody
have pictures of that to show here?
