will be fine, as long as you make the surface of the pignonaxle really rough and scraped, so that the (thin) superglue will be able to adhere accordingly.

Us being the fastest? maybe, but think about the Badboys and the Spanish team, always able to run top 5. I think it will be close, especially with the weight calculator in place :comp1:
Also there are lots of teams competing I've never raced before, so can't tell what they'll able to do.

Can't wait to see the cars line up for the concours, it will be awesome

Good to read that all went well.... not so good is the fact that your car will probably be the fastest on the track.

From almere :coke:

And, our work has paid off.
Having all the weights in it and at the right place, we surely felt that the Lambo should be better now than Wednesday.
And it was
Opening lap was immediately a 8,78, close to our quickest time wednesday, and I got more and more convinced I could actualy make my goal of 8,60.
I let Tamar drive for a while to get used to the new setup. He got pressing and put a 8,66 on the clock, which surely upped our moods :D
Tried a few things on the T-bar springs and stellstops, and I put in a quickest lap of a to me mindblowing 8,46 :car:
Tamar and Willem both being in the mid 8,50's.
But now: I had our Aston with me this time, how would it compare to the big Lambo????
Exactly the same as last year and with the settings unchanged, the best the Phoenix could do was an 8,77. Together with me driving the Aston, Emily put in a stunning 8,81, with the Corvette, which is amazing concidering the car's been build two years ago and stayed stationary for the last 6 months.
But the Lambo was just in a class of it's own today, the car felt just so lovely. And most important, Wednesday we had a serious drop-off in lamptimes when the engine got warmed up. We completely cured the problem and now the car's capable of running the same laptimes for the 40 minutes I drove it.
So, back to Amsterdam, finish the car, hopefully tomorrow if all goes well we'll have complete rubber mirrors poured :holy. And find something to get a solid wing fixture, as of course Willem managed to break it today :finger::laugh:

We're looking forward to Thursday, to have a nice, fair, hard and friendly race. And let's not forget the :coke:s, as of course this whole thing is a birthday party of half of RFH. See you all soon! :car::car:

Hey Fola

YOu can say [Censored] if you want too:D
Blasphemy is an other matter ....but the F word includes good wishes, its nice to do so
Like if you want to say those are fucking nice wheels...you can without getting :comp1:

Anyhow here's an update on the last stages of the R-GT project. I realise that there are some gaps, I'll try to fill those in later.

Wednesday
After we came back from the test run in Almere, I dropped Nick and Emilly of and did an other late night session on the doing some corrections on the decals. Basically they were OK, but typefaces are my bussiness so I'm a bit of an Antfucker in that department.
Anyhow, did a test fit with the decals printed on a big a4 label sheet. Still have not gotten used to those Bling bling wheels Nick put on my Lambo......

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip215.jpg

Like I said not completely happy with the result, typefaces for the Gigawave and All ink logo's were not to my liking but....day break had arrived some hours ago and there was that thing about going to my Day Job...so I had to leave it for now....

Thursday
Came back from work, caught some tweny winks and had 2 pressing jobs on hand.

Needed to make a master for the to be vacformed interior (as the guy doing them was leaving for his summer vacation) and needed to finish the decal master if I was to get them printed in time and delivered by mail before next wednesday. Started on the decals first, can live with a more simplified interior, but without the proper decals the car wont be finished.
So come 03.00hrs it was time to get working on the interior

Friday
You'll have to excuse me for not taking to many pictures during these late sessions....to this base I added a driver, and some electronic boxes, not really true to scale, but it was a rush job.

Another twenty winks on the cauch and it was time to head off to get the vacformed parts...vac formed ;)
Coming home with all kind of vacuum goodies I finally crashed and got some sleep.
Woke up after some 6 hrs, diner with the wife, some updates on the site and back to the workshop...which needed some serious cleaning before any work could be done...

But by midnight my workbench was clean and clear so I could finished my decal test fit with the corrections I did Thursday night and then I just had to make me some different wheels.

Saturday...morning
Doing an much delayed update before hitting the sack......
This 24-7 routine i8s zapping my energy, but at least were now entering the fun zone, detailing and more of that kind of stuff...and there's still 5 day before we've got to race...amazing...we might actually leave Amsterdam with a finished and tested car

Just got back from Almere testing...

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip207.jpg
The last time RFH tested any car before a race whas the 2005? Viper in Leeuwarden. So this was a welcome deja vu, getting to know the car's imperfections and cure them having all the time in the world, instead of being called to Technical Controle. :D

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip208.jpg

Back to testing:
Late this afternoon I glued the bodyholders in the body, and I have to tell you, this is a bad, bad girl. Rearwheels up in the arches, fronts using every thents of millimeter, oh yeah! Using those carbon wingholders I put on the wing and I made a special set of testing wheels: Yeah, those mother****ng ugly gold wheels :D.

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip214.jpg

First laps where just checking the car and track, and even before we could start comparing to last years cars we found that that would be though job, as I forgot to bring them ;).

Ok Ok, pushing the pedal harder, coming down to 8,88, we were quite pleased, and we put the car on a scale: whoops, we need 37 grams for our minimum. Glued in 40, and put the car back on track.
Hmm, 9,10 was the best I could manage. Shit. Suddenly we were given an extra 2 hours testing time, so back to the table and work!
After fine tuning the finetuning, we concluded the evening in a 8,72, pretty ok I think. Overall look was good, and after Henry finally got his Astons gearbox sorted, I drove his car to a promising 8,79.
Young pupil Emily pushed Henry's old 550 to a 9,10, which, with the car showing its age, was very impressive
Lessons learned, we will head back for a second test sessions next sunday, aiming to get down to 8,60 - 8,65 with all the weights in the position. (those 40 gram where 20 in the roof! and 20 on top of the chassis, room for improvement there).

Will keep you updated,
JustMe

Although one without the pics and how-to's on the Lambo side, here's a small update:

Yesterday morning (Yes ladies and gentlemen!) the sillicone has been poured! And if I am not mistaken Tamar is laminating tonight, in order to make the original RFH plan to work, which is:

Laminating today, so it will be hardened Monday morning-ish.
Monday can be spent on cleaning the body and repair possible faul spots on the body.
Thursday, that's where I come in, will I be busy all day fine tuning and setting the chassis, which Willem has assembled and set up.
Thursday evening last thing: glueing the body holders to the car, which will be a new story for me, as Willem has made some dampered holders I've never seen before, which is code-named "het flatgebouw" (flat building in English).
Wednesday: fine tuning the active holders and lower the body as far as possible and at 17:30 we leave for a double-sided shake down and test session on the new wooden 6-laner in Almere.
The session is double sided 'cause we will be joined by the Dart Team Modena Aston Martin DBR-9, on which their Mister X together with Henry van Gool has done lots of progress and tuning.
Final feature of the nigth will be that my very own pupil in my Driver's Program will be pounding around the track with the good old RFH (now PSI Experience) Corvette. In light of her next step to the RFH Drivers Diploma, she's being outsourced to the Virage Team of Gert Klinge at the next endurance race at the Alsdorf Spa Franchochamps Circuit :car:

More to follow soon

Its been a while since I last posted, last thing I wrote was...I have to give it some thought (on how to mount the front fenders).
As the days passed I thought many solutions, but none were staisfactory so I kept postponing.
The problem was that while test fitting the " Burago" fenders on the Auto Art body I found out that they.....didn't.
At least not properly..they were not the same left/ right and the shape of the wheelarches was also incorrect.
On top of that I had milled the fenders so thin that it was very easy to distort/bend them during the glueing process. And it did not help that the AUto Art body is quite flexible as well.

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip181a.jpg
Positioning of the front fenders has to be very acurate as it they will determine the cars wheelbase and body movement. On the 1/1 car this is a tight fit but there's ample room for the ± 35mm suspension travel, but on 1/24 scale its the body that moves and not only up and down but also sideways. So they have to be in exactly the right position and totally symmetrical.

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip181.jpg
So I decided to build a kind of Jig, basically a flat board with a centreline so I was sure the body was flat and straight and hopefully I could check the proper width of the fenders. To have "something to build on I first needed to extend the front bumper with some milliput.

I cut the splitter out of 0,8mm GRP leaving plenty of extra material and glued it with doubble sided tape on the Jig.
I covered the top of the splitter with another piece of doubble sided tape, leaving the protectionsheet on so I would have a flat workingspace to add the milliput to, but without the milliput sticking to the splitter.

This worked fine, only when I wanted to fit the fenders it was still difficult to see if the wheelarches were spaced evenly around the wheels. So I took the body of the Jig and decided to work with the body placed over the chassis.

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip182.jpg
As the jig did not work I needed to find an other way to "fix" the body's position in such a way that whenever I would take it off the chassis I could reposition it exactly in the same way.
In the end the simpelest solution always works best... I glued two strips of 0.75mm in the wheelarches to make sure that the wheels would remain centered.

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip183.jpg
next I added spacers to position the new fenders, using doubble sided tape to test fit their position. But no matter what I did..I could not get a satisfactory position where both the sides and the top parts alligned properly. As the sides matched better than the top I decided to cut the top off as I would have needed filler in this area anyhow.

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip184.jpg
I thought of many ways to glue the fenders to the body , looking for a way that would allow me some repositioning while the glue set. These kind of things is what makes up most of the time in a project, thinking about what to do, considering your options, trying to eliminate as many problems as possible before they appear and in the end finding that each solution always causes unforseen new problems.

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip1917.jpg
To clear my mind I decided to work on an different area, and moved my attention from front to the back. Here there is an other set of louvres that extract air from the diff cooler.
http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip1916.jpg
A rectangular space was cut from the centre panel and the louvres were build up by glueing several strips of plastic sheet on to of each other

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip1918.jpg
No recessed panel here, just an open window into which the louveres could be "pushed" into position.

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip193.jpg
A slot was curt in the roof to recieve the roof duct already made for the burago body

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip185.jpg
With all the other jobs done it was time to return to the front..... well ...in the end I just took superglue and "tacked" the fenders into their position. 5 minutes was all it took.

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip186.jpg
On to the next stage, milling the recess for the louvre panels was so much easier in the AUto Art plastic body than when I did it on the metal Burago.
http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip187.jpg
Detail shot shows how the louvers are almost flush with the body on the inside and rise ±1mm to the edge of the fenders.

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip188.jpg
Shot from the side and you see all the complex curves...but so far so good

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip190.jpg
Fast forward one week and the louvre panels have been glued in place, filler was used to create a flush transition to the body. The central Naca duct had been cut and IThe R-GT actually has 4 seperate louvre panels, but to keep all the louvers aligned I chose to make them as one. Because now that they were in place it was much easier to make a division with filler.
On the pic step 1 using maksing tape to mark the division.
http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip191.jpg
Step 2 I masked the louvres next to the marker tape, removing the centre tape gave me a nice masked area to which I added some putty!

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/wip192.jpg
The end result (needs some more tidying up off coarse) body now in black as I got tired of the primer grey

Here's a pic of the resin copy I made of the Burago nose. I was a bit of a quick and dirty job.
Didn't want to spend a whole load of silicon by copying the whole body.
So I sort of only boxed in the nose and started pouring.
http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/WIP161.jpg

That was easy...but this meant that my mould would be "open" at the back after the master was removed.
So when I wanted to pour the resin this was a bit untidy as the stuff flowed
just as fast out the back of the mold as i could pour it in the front.
http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/WIP162.jpg

Luckily I used the really fast curing stuff (cures in 5min) and I managed to
get it out in..at least 2 pieces. But then came the difficult part...
As the cast was a solid piece it required a lot of milling to make it as thin
as....well lets say a 1/24 front fender
http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/WIP163.jpg
Using a dremel and a parabolic mill bit some hours were spend milling
away to a thickness of less than 0.5mm at some places.
http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/WIP164.jpg

And all the time I was holding my breath (not at least because this produced a lot of dust) thinking..its going to break....
but in the end it didn't
http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/WIP168.jpg

So now I had my own home grown "transkit". The first test fitting looked promising,
overall shape seemed to fit, at some places the fender was still a bit thick
so I carefully milled way some more to get a better "flush" fit http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/WIP167.jpg

But before I could continue I had to enlarge the original wheelarches so I could
drop the body to the desired "ride height".
This was the stage were I had to pay extar attention of not loosing the proper reference.
Maintaining simmitry is one of the most diffucult things if you start to modify a body.

So to make sure I enlarged both wheelarches equally and keeping a check
on the proper wheelbase, I engraved them with a calliper and milled away
until I had removed everything below the engraved line.

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/WIP174.jpg
Here's a pic of the second test fit. As I had seen at first glance when I compared the Burago and AA bodies,
there were some serious differences between their nose sections (with the AA being the most correct).
The AA windscreen is a bit narrower at the bottom and runs much deeper in to the hood.
On both kits the wheelarches are positioned at the same distance from the doors, but as I had lost a bit of reference on the burago (filling in the huge gaps created by the opening doors) I now saw that the left and right fender where not exactly "mirror images" of each other.

Hmmmm how to decide what is the correct position...........have to think a bit on that one
tamar

 posted on 31-5-2007 at 18:23
As there were lost of images to download (and there will be many more) I thought it best to start a new thread for the Murcie project from stage 4 and onwards.

There's also an other reason to split the tread...as it has taken a bit different route

After getting the Auto Art Lambo My first thought was to transplant some of the AA detail parts onto my Burago master......
But the list of transplants grew and grew to such an extend......
that in the end I've decided it would be simpler to accept defeat and to make a mold of the front fenders of my master and pour a resine copy.
Using those as a transkit for on the Auto Art.

So the Burago goes in to the small round archive and stage 4 is about making a master from the Auto Art Murciellago.

Been there, done that,.... doing it again
One af the advantages of doing things twice is that you get a chance to improve upon your earlier fuck-ups.

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/WIP158.jpg
While the mold for the front fenders was setting the first thing I did on the Autoart body was to build up the edge of the rear wheeelarches. Not so much as to widen it , but more to have enough material so I could get that straight edge.
Above step 1 building up material with some Milliputt. After this had hardened, I cleaned up the edges checking that the thicknes of the build up was equal on both sides.

One of the problems I had on the Burago was that with each coat of primer I lost some of the cleanness of the bodylines. So on the Auto Art I used a different method.

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/WIP159.jpg
Step 2: Before applying the Primer I masked off the rest of the body and only sprayed the panel I was working on. The result is much better and its a lot easier to keep track of the symmetry as well. I used several layers of Tamiya primer to blend the milliput into the original wheelarches, carfully sanding with 1000 grit wet&dry emmery paper between layers.

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/WIP159a.jpg
Immidiately the more correct shape of the AA body showed when I dropped the body over the chassis. The Lambo has this distincitve way the rear wheel is halfway up in the wheelarch and the AA body does this a lot better than the Burago.....so I did the right thing afterall :D

http://www.slotracinglemans.com/images/rfh/lambo_rgt2007/WIP160.jpg
To make room for the rear wheel quite a lot of material had to be milled away from the inside, but as the AA body is some 2 mm thick and the laminated GFK will be much thinner this should not be a problem...I hope.

Anyhow it looks much better.

So much for now...more later
