The Lola designed MG EX257 was the first chassis designed exclusively to the LMP(light) 675 rules. Lessons learned from Lola's contemporary Sportscar designs were all incorporated in the MG EX257, but then much lighter.

Under ACO LMP 675 rules, the MG should have been capable of taking the race to the bigger LMP 900 cars. They had a better power to weight and being much lighter should have had an advantage in fuel consumption and tire wear.
On many occasions the MG's did gave their "big brother" Audi a good run for their money, but was always running behind in the development stakes. What would have happened if they would have had the same amount of money to spend?

The same thought must have crossed the ACO minds. Weary that a major manufacturer would devote their budget to a 675 car and hijack the class and overall win, they changed the 2003 rules for the 675 category so that they would no longer be a thread to the "Big Guns".
For once David loses out from Goliath!.
